About 30% of the waste we generate each year comes from packaging. Aaron Mickelson set out to solve this problem by creating products that have no packaging at all.

Having fun, exploring ideas, creating, solving, building great things for you and your customers, being proud of your work, challenging yourself, learning, growing, building a self-sustaining company on your own schedule, adding something useful to the world, and working with great people – that’s what this is all about. Not maximization of a metric.

Caring for Your Introvert

Do you know someone who needs hours alone every day? Who loves quiet conversations about feelings or ideas, and can give a dynamite presentation to a big audience, but seems awkward in groups and maladroit at small talk? Who has to be dragged to parties and then needs the rest of the day to recuperate?

How EVE Online servers deal with a 3,000 person battle

One of the largest battles in EVE Online history took place due to an accidental click, according to reports. The full details of why and how so many ships ended up battling each other is a fascinating read, but my question is what happens to the servers when something this crazy happens in the game. CCP, the creator of EVE Online, has detailed plans in place specifically for this sort of event.

“The customer service team (GMs) keep an eye out for gigantic fights like this,” CCP Veritas, one of the game’s developers, told the Report. “We’ve got a cluster status webpage that shows big red numbers when a node gets overloaded like it was by this fight, so it’s pretty easy to see what’s up.” It’s what happens next that is interesting.

Spoiler: they slow down time.

Qualcomm's insane CES 2013 keynote

We weren’t quite sure what to expect beyond a new series of processors, but what we got was weirder than anything we’ve seen in all of our collective years attending CES.

Well, I feel uncomfortable now. How did anyone think this was a good idea? (Be sure to check the video at the bottom too.)

Stray Penises and Politicos

Too dumb to be the Director of C.I.A. Isn’t that a sensitive position? Shouldn’t his penis only show itself in the most careful moments, so as to protect a great nation’s secrets?

More great commentary.

Barack Obama and the Death of Normal

Hard times are still to come for all of us. Rear guard actions will be fought at every political crossroad. But make no mistake: Change is a motherfucker when you run from it. And right now, the conservative movement in America is fleeing from dramatic change that is certain and immutable. A man of color is president for the second time, and this happened despite a struggling economic climate and a national spirit of general discontent. He has been returned to office over the specific objections of the mass of white men.

He has instead been re-elected by women, by people of color, by homosexuals, by people of varying religions or no religion whatsoever. Behold the New Jerusalem. Not that there’s anything wrong with being a white man, of course. There’s nothing wrong with being anything. That’s the point.
